Chichibu On The Way 2015 Release

Ichiro Akuto's Chichibu distillery has been producing malts for a while now, this was released in 2015 and is made from various vintages comprising 2008 onwards.

All matured in bourbon casks and then finished in Mizunara.

Hakushu 1991 \"Furudaru Shiage\" Pure Malt 

There is a great deal of debate as to whether or not this is a single malt, Suntory were renowned for using the term \"Pure Malt\" for both single malts and blended malts and a high number of bloggers have stated that this is 100% Hakushu.

The translation of ‘Furudaru Shiage’ means old barrel finish, there is also some text to imply that it has been filtered through bamboo charcoal.

Hibiki 17 Year Old

A well-aged, popular, and stunning blend produced by Suntory.

Suntory announced in May 2018 that the 17 year old would be discontinued.

Yamazaki 2008 Refill Sherry Cask 50cl / The Essence of Suntory

Part of the 2019 additions to the series, The Essence of Suntory Whisky, this is a refill sherry cask matured single malt, produced at their flagship Yamazaki distillery.

Distilled in 2008 and bottled at a higher strength of 53%.

Chichibu The Peated 2018 / 10th Anniversary

This is from the relatively new and incredibly popular Japanese distillery Chichibu.

Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2018, this has been produced from heavily peated malt and bottled at cask strength.

One of 11550 bottles.

Nikka Tsuru 17 Year Old ​

Nikka's new Tsuru 17 year old blend is becoming increasingly sought after, particularly following awards such as 'Best Japanese Blended Whisky between 13 and 20 Years' from the World Whisky Awards.

Kyoto Ki Noh Bi Ex-Karuizawa Cask Dry Gin / 3rd Edition

This gin is extra special as it was matured in ex-Karuizawa sherry casks, marking the first-ever collaboration between Japanese whisky and Japanese gin. The Kyoto Distillery’s “Ki Noh Bi” Dry Gin is also the first Japanese gin to collaborate with the Noh Theatre, like the legendary Karuizawa distillery did before it. Noh is one of Japan’s traditional performing arts.

This third edition was exclusive to European and domestic Japanese markets.

There is a great deal of debate as to whether or not this is a single malt, Suntory were renowned for using the term \"Pure Malt\" for both single malts and blended malts and a high number of bloggers have stated that this is 100% Hakushu. 

The translation of ‘Kioke Shikomi’ seems strange because although it means “matured in a wooden tub”, 'kioke’ normally refers to a tub used for making sake.

Yamazakura 16 Year Old

A blend named after the Yamazakura distillery which was closed in 1998.

From the fairly abstruse label text this is a vatting of 18 and 19 year old whisky that is married in a sherry barrel for a further 3 years. Though one might imagine were that the case, it would be declared as a 21 years old. 

Eigashima 2015 Akashi Ex-Sake Cask 50cl / Ghost Series #9 

Akashi is the name given to the the single malt produced at the Eigashima distillery. The site is often also referred to as the White Oak distillery, after the blend it produces. Because demand for White Oak is so high, most Eigashima single malt is reserved for this, so Akashi is quite rare.

This is a 2015 vintage single cask, matured in ex-Sake barrel #101520.

Only 500 bottles were produced.

Ichiro's Blend for Isetan 20cl / Hanyu and Kawasaki

An exclusive blend produced by Ichiro Akuto the owner of Chichibu distillery and the man responsible for bringing Hanyu and Karuizawa casks to the market.  

This blend was produced for Isetan, Singapore and is a blend of Hanyu and Kawasaki both closed distilleries.  Aged between 12 and 35 years old, released October 2012.

Shizoka 2019 Blackadder New Make 3 x 20cl 

Foundered in 2016 by Giai Flow, the Shizoka distillery is located in the city that shares its name. A year before production began, Gaia bought the distilling equipment previously used by the legendary Karuizawa distillery, which was dismantled in 2011. The equipment was purchased as is, but only one of the four stills can be used. The other three were simply too old. However, they are displayed at the new site as a tribute to the legendary Karuizawa distillery. The grain mill and barrel hoop driving machine were also salvaged. 

The distillery also has two new Forsyths stills which are currently the only stills in the world that are wood fired.

The following three 20cl bottles where produced by Blackadder and distributed at the Whisky Fair which took place in Limburg, Germany in 2019. The bottles included are...

Released by Nikka, this range of blended malts is named after Nikka's founder and a key figure in the birth of Japanese whisky, Masataka Taketsuru.

Taketsuru 17 year old is highly acclaimed and has received many awards.

Mars Fubuki 2018 Limited Edition

A blended whisky produced by Mars Whisky, owners of the Mars Shinshu distillery and the recently-opened Mars Tsunuki distillery. 

'Fubuki' translates as 'snow storm', and refers to the naturally melted snow that contributes to the high quality water that is used to produce this whisky. 

Matured in American white oak and bourbon barrels.

Originally only available in the Japanese duty free market, this Nikka blend is adorned by a Samurai.

Gold and Gold is a blend of pot and coffey still whiskies from Nikka's distilleries.

Kurayoshi 18 Year Old Pure Malt

Having been established in 1910, Matsui Shuzo has been producing Shochu for a number of years.

The Kurayoshi distillery is finally bottling its own output, which is known as \"The Matsui\" single malt. Confusingly, this is \"The Kurayoshi\" malt whisky which is actually imported Scotch that has been aged in Japan at the Matsui-Shuzo warehouses.

Sanmi-Ittai Pure Malt Single Cask #9586

A blended malt whisky from Toashuzo Co, the proprietors of the now legendary closed distillery, Hanyu. Sanmi-Ittai is a Japanese translation of the Latin, Trinitas, in reference to the three founders of the distillery in the 1940s. The trinity comprised Shimazaki, Inoue (both still credited as blenders for Toashuzo's Golden Horse brand), and a Mr Akuto, the grandfather of Chichibu distillery founder, Ichiro Akuto.

Sanmi-Ittai is blended from one of the final remaining Hanyu casks, and selected other malt whiskies of an undisclosed origin, further matured in a series of other single casks.

Toyo Jozo Byron JBA Whisky 1967

Toya Breweries produced Jupiter Whisky before the company merged with Asahi Holdings. In this distant past some whiskies were released under the name Byron J.B.A whisky by Toyo Jozo ltd.

The whisky was blended in association with the Japan Bartenders' Association and released in January 1967 and were only for use in bars.

This is a rare opportunity to grab long forgotten Japanese whisky.
