Bidding advice
You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.
Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.
Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £55.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
Incremental Bidding Explained
Our system increases bids based on preset increments, as shown in the table below, whether you set a maximum bid or make a single bid.
Bottle Details
This is the 2015 and first release in the highly acclaimed Arran Smugglers' Series. The collection was a nod to the shady history of Arran's illicit distilling back during the 18th and 19th centuries when the island was a producer of black market whisky. Presented in a book style package to hide the goods.
The whisky itself represents the type of dram the illicit producers would create. It is a mixture of port pipes and sherry hogsheads containing non-peated spirit and oak barrels containing peated spirit.
Arran Smugglers' Series Volume 1 / The Illicit Stills
Although the Isle of Arran was once a hot-bed of distilling activity, there were no distilleries on the island for the majority of the 19th and 20th centuries. Isle of Arran Distillers opened their first distillery in 1995, and it quickly became a firm favourite. They bottled its first single malt in 1998, a limited edition 3 year old in a glass decanter. The distillery also produced a peated single malt called Machrie Moor, however an experimental second distillery on the other side of the island, called Lagg, is now the site of all the company’s peated production. As of 2019, the distillery was renamed Lochranza, however its single malt brand is still known by the old name, Arran.
This is the 2015 and first release in the highly acclaimed Arran Smugglers' Series, and was followed by High Seasin 2016 and The Exciseman in 2017. The series was a nod to the shady history of Arran's distilling back during the 18th and 19th century when the island was a producer of illicit whisky. Presented in a book style package to hide the goods.
The whisky itself represents the type of dram the illicit producers would create. It is a mixture of Port Pipes and Sherry Hogsheads containing unpeated spirit and oak barrels containing peated spirit. An all-together heavier style dram than what is produced today.
One of only 8,700 bottles.
Lochranza
One of two malt whisky distilleries owned by Isle of Arran Distillers, Lochranza was the first to be opened in 1995. The distillery's flagship single malt brand is the Arran label and although it now only distils a non-peated whisky, it has historically produced peated single malt as well.
Arran
The flagship single malt brand of the Lochranza distillery on Arran. Originally launched as The Arran Malt in 1998, it was renamed simply as Arran in 2019. Although its core range has always been a non-peated whisky, some occasional limited releases of peated single malt have also been produced.
