Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection

Company

Buffalo Trace is a distillery with both enormous production capacity and warehouse space. As a result its owner, the Sazerac Company, have long had the privilege of being able to conduct numerous experiments in both the distilling and ageing with its whiskey, as well as benefit from the results of those conducted by their predecessors. The company estimates that it has over 5,000 experimental barrels in its warehouses, and as of 2006 has been releasing the fruits of these for enthusiasts to mull over.

Among the experiments include various cask-finishes, mash bills with unusual flavour grains, different levels of stave charring and seasoning, and even barrels treated with infrared light waves.
