The Paul John distillery is one of many within the John Distilleries network, which has facilities in Goa, Konkan and Bangalore. From these it produces a range of spirit types which contribute to whisky brands such as Black Pelican and its best-selling Original Choice. Its Goa distillery was founded in 1996 and it is here that single malt was first laid down for ageing in 2007.
The distillery produced medium-peated, heavily-peated and non-peated spirit which it bottles and markets as the Paul John brand.
The Paul John brand debuted in 2012 at the Whisky Show in London via a limited single cask release. This was promtly followed by several more and then a portfolio of permanent bottlings were launched the following year.
Today the brand has a wide range of flagship expressions that include the non-peated Nirvana and Brilliance, lightly-peated Edited and heavily-peated Bold. These are supported by batches of various cask-finished single malts and a Paul John-branded grape brandy.
