Old Heaven Hill Springs

Old Heaven Hill Springs was the original distillery operation founded by the Shapira brothers in 1935. Located in Bardstown, Kentucky, it produced straight bourbon whiskey for the many and varied Heaven Hill Distilleries brands, including names such as Elijah Craig and Evan Williams.

The distillery was lost in a devastating fire on 7th November 1996 which started in an ageing warehouse spreading to other buildings, consuming 90,000 barrels in the process. Rather than rebuild, the company acquired the much larger New Bernheim distillery from Diageo in 1999 and the old site is now a warehousing operation and visitor centre. In 2023 ground was broken on a new Heaven Hill Springs distillery in Bardstown which produced its first barrels in 2025.
