Miltonduff
Miltonduff is a malt distillery in the Speyside region and part of the Pernod Ricard Scotch whisky holdings. It is managed by the Chivas Brothers division where it continues to be an essential component of the Ballantine's blends. This has been the case since the 1936 when it was acquired by Hiram Walker & Sons for that very purpose.
While a Miltonduff single malt brand was bottled in the past, official bottlings are today sold under the Ballantine's banner alongside Glentauchers and Glenburgie. The distillery is also notable for having produced another single malt called Mosstowie using Lomond still installed there between 1964 and 1981.
Despite its importance to the Ballantine's blends, Miltonduff single malt was bottled by George Ballantine & Son as well. Beginning in the 1960s, these were an unusual 13-year-old age statement, labelled Milton-Duff and filled using the same glass bottle and foil capsule as the Ballantine's brand until the 1970s. Subsequently, the packaging took its own design with the labels now reading Milton-Duff-Glenlivet. The 13-year-old was swapped for a 12-year-old and a 5-year-old was also bottled for the Italian market.
In the 1980s the 12-year-old was repackaged into an eye-catching screen printed green bottle, before being relaunched again in 1991 as part of Allied Distillers' Caledonian Malts collection alongside Laphroaig, Tormore and Glendronach. This was the last time the Miltonduff brand was marketed by the distillery and it was discontinued by the early 2000s.
Today Miltonduff is packaged as single malt 002 alongside Glentauchers and Glenburgie under the Ballantine's brand name. Occasional other distillery bottlings have also been released within Chivas Brothers' The Distillery Reserve Collection.
