Millburn
Millburn is one of a trio of now lost Inverness distilleries (alongside Glen Mhor and Glen Albyn), all of which were closed by the Distillers Company (DCL) in the 1980s. It traces its history back to the early 19th century with legal distilling commencing under the ownership of Ross & Macdonald in 1825. The middle of the century saw it converted back to its original use as a flour mill in 1853 and then back to a distillery again in 1876. In 1921 it was acquired by Booth's which joined the Distillers Company umbrella in 1937. Millburn then found itself part of the Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD) division until its closure when it deemed surplus to requirements during the "whisky loch" era of oversupply at DCL.
Primarily tasked with providing fillings for blends, no Millburn was officially bottled during its lifetime. The only distillery bottlings are therefore the three Rare Malts Selection releases produced by United Distillers in 1995 and by Diageo in 2001 and 2005. The majority of single malt examples of Millburn are independent bottlings instead, however these are also rare.
