Kingsbarns
Kingsbarns is a Lowland malt distillery in Fife. The idea for the distillery was first hatched in 2009 by a former gold caddie called Douglas Clement, who dreamed of opening it close to the Kingsbarns Golf Links.
Despite receiving planning permission in 2010, Clement was unable to finance the project and sold it to The Wemyss Development Company in 2012. Now with the requisite financial backing, it was built and operational by 2014, producing a traditional Lowland style of single malt whisky.
While the distillery is managed by the Wemyss Distillery Ltd subsidiary, the Kingsbarns brand is owned through a sister company called Wemyss Family Spirits which also owns the Wemyss Malts blends and the Darnley's gin label. The Kingsbarns brand was introduced in 2015 as the distillery began to market bottles of new make and aged spirit drinks. The debut single malt bottling was its Founders’ Reserve Inaugural Release in 2018.
The current core range includes a sherry-casked expression called Balcomie, launched in 2020, and a bourbon and STR cask-aged bottling called Doocot, introduced in 2023.
