Kilchoman
Kilchoman is a malt distillery on Islay and was the first to be built on the island for 124 years when it opened in 2005. It is located at Rockside Farm on the west of the island and planning on the project was commenced in 2002 by Anthony Wills' Kilchoman Distillery Company.
The distillery saw the return of "farm distilling" to the island, ultilising its own barely fields, malt floors and kilns. It aims to provide itself with at least 25% of its annual malt requirements, and in 2011 it released its first 100% Islay single malt, produced entirely in-house with locally sourced ingredients.
The Kilchoman brand was first introduced in 2007 as the distillery began to sell bottles of its new make spirit. Its debut single malt, Inaugural Release, was launched in 2009 and followed by a series of seasonally-released vintages and single cask bottlings.
The brand's first permanent release was introduced in 2021 and is called Machir Bay. It remains the flagship expression today and is joined in the core range by the sherry-matured Sanaig. These are supported by annual releases of Loch Gorm and 100% Islay, as well as regular small batch limited editions and continued single cask releases.
