Imperial
Imperial is a former Scottish malt distillery, built in 1897 by Thomas MacKenzie. Its founding coincided with the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, which is believed to have been a contributing factor to the distillery's grandiose name.
Sadly, Imperial spent much of its existence in mothballs rather than distillery. Its longest active period was between 1955 and 1985 under ownership of the Distillery Company. It was sold to Allied Distillers in 1989 who ran it between 1991 and 1998 when it closed for good. Pernod Ricard then demolished it in 2013, opening the Dalmunach distillery on the site two years later.
