Glenora is a distillery and hotel business on the Cape Breton island of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is recognised as the first dedicated single malt distillery in North America and was founded in 1990 by Bruce Jardine who sought advice from distillers at Bowmore when planning its construction. Jardine later sold the distillery to current owner, Lauchie Maclean, in 1994.
The distillery's whisky is released under the Glen Breton brand name, one which saw it locked in a litigation battle with the Scotch Whisky Association after it objected to the use of "Glen." Glenora eventually came out on top and the case was dismissed in 11th June 2009. It also produces a peated single malt called The Dark Glen.
