Convalmore
Built at the end of the 19th century, Convalmore was the fourth of the famed "Seven Stills" of Dufftown. In 1906 it was acquired by James Buchanan & Company and for the remainder of its days it played an important role in providing fillings for its blends, such as Black & White.
When Buchanan-Dewar was merged into the Distillers Company in 1925, Convalmore was assigned to its Scottish Malt Distillers division. Sadly it was deemed surplus to requirements in 1985 and the site was later sold to William Grant & Sons.
During its lifetime the Convalmore distillery was dedicated to the provision of blended Scotch brands. As such no official single malt releases were produced until Diageo bottled one for their Rare Malts Selection label in 2003.
The first dedicated Convalmore single malt brand appeared two years later when a bottling was included in the 2005 Diageo Special Releases. It has made several appearances in subsequent outturns of the annual range, and also within the Ultima & Prima series. They are also available as part of the company's private Casks of Distinction programme but generally they remain incredibly rare.
