Burren
Burren is a small Irish whiskey distillery, located within the region of the same name within County Clare on the island's west coast. The idea for the distillery was that of Noel Ó Lochlainn, who founded Burren Distillers in 2013, and opened the distillery in late 2019. In doing so, the company returned the historic distilling tradition to the area, which dates back to the Cistercian monks of the 13th century.
The distillery has a terroir-focussed approach, growing all of its own barley in two fields totalling 20-acres. It operates its own in-house floor maltings, and produces triple-distilled single malt and single pot still Irish whiskies. Its wood policy includes ex-oloroso sherry, viognier, cognac, muscat and port casks, as well as some barrels coopered from Irish oak.
