William Whiteley & Co
William Whiteley & Co was a distilling and blending company established in Scotland in 1922. It found early success through its founder's nefarious relationship with mafia boss, Frank Costello, whom he conspired with to smuggle his blended into the US during Prohibition. in 1941 its parent company, J.G. Turney & Son, was acquired by the American businessman, Irving Haim, and it remained in his family until 1978. It was later acquired by Pernod Ricard in 1982 through its subsidiary, S Campbell & Son.
The company is notable for owning the Edradour distillery, the malt from which it used to provision blended Scotch brands such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
