Kirin-Seagram Ltd was a Japanese-based company established in 1972 as a co-venture between the Kirin Brewery Co, the Canadian distilling giant Seagram Company and its Chivas Brothers Scotch whisky division. It opened the Gotemba distillery in 1973 (now called Mt. Fuji), one of the world's largest producers and intended to service the requirements of both of its owners.
When Seagram was dissolved in 2000, Kirin-Seagram was also a casualty and the Gotemba distillery was transferred to the newly created Kirin Distillery Company as it became wholly Japanese-owned for the first time.
