KenAgra
KenAgra Inc was an American subsidiary of Diageo. It was originally established by Tom Bulleit in 1989, and its named was a contraction of Kentucky Agricultural. Bulleit had approached the George T. Stagg distillery (now Buffalo Trace) in 1987 to contract them to distil his family's high-rye bourbon recipe, agreeing to purchase some pre-aged stock as part of the deal. KenAgra was then founded in order to market the whiskey, which was labelled Thoroughbred.
The whiskey was released in 1991 but struggled to sell. It was then reimagined as the Bulleit brand and relaunched in 1995. Its success saw KenAgra acquired by the Seagram Company two years later, and subsequently by Diageo in 2001.
