The Scottish Referendum 45 vs. 55
The Scottish Referendum 45 vs. 55 is a brand of independently bottled Islay single malt, first bottled in 2014 to mark the result of Scotland's historic independence vote. It was bottled and marketed by Feinkost Reifferscheid, a historic wine and spirits retailer in Bonn, Germany.
Intended as a one-off, the release proved so popular that a second and third batch were subsequently bottled later in 2014 and 2015. Each was bottled symbolically at 55% ABV and batched in multiples of 45 bottles (90, 135 and 90, respectively). Although unstated, the whisky is known to have been sourced from Lagavulin distillery.
