History

The Naked Grouse was debuted by the Edrington Group in 2011 as a premium line extension for its world-renowned Famous Grouse brand. Like its parent label, the original product was a blend or malt and grain whiskies however was departure for the brand in terms of its heavily-sherried qualities.

These qualities were well-received and the blend was popular among drinkers. So much so in fact that the company sought to upgrade it in 2017, redesigning the packaging and reworking the recipe by removing the grain whisky. The product continues to be a blended malt to this day.

The decision to remove the expression from the Famous Grouse portfolio was made in 2021, and the Naked Malt was introduced by Edrington as its own standalone brand. Today it is one of the company's key Scotch labels alongside its former parent, Famous Grouse, and the Macallan, Highland Park and Glenrothes single malts.
