The story of Last Drop Distillers began in 2007 when James Espey and Tom Jago, friends of 45 years, started a small blending company in London. The pair boasted a wealth of collected experience within the industry before they started the project. Espey had clocked up over 50 years in the drinks industry working for the likes of Coca-Cola and eventually became the chairman of Chivas Brothers, and Jago was the former head of innovations at International Distillers & Vintners (IDV), where he helped invent brands such as Baileys Irish Cream, Le Piat d’Or and what would eventually become Johnnie Walker Blue Label. The aim of their new venture was to focus on producing extremely limited, high-end blended Scotch, although the portfolio has since grown to include other whiskies, rum, cognac and wine. The very first release came in 2008. The company grew in 2010 when daughter Rebecca Jago joined, and she was followed by Beanie Espey in 2014. Then, in 2016 Espey and Jago agreed to sell their company to American drinks giant and Buffalo Trace distillery-owner, the Sazerac Company. In its relatively short history, Last Drop Distillers has enjoyed success with its modest but ever-increasing catalogue of releases, each of which are highly-regarded by collectors and experts alike. 

• Glen Garioch 1967 The Last Drop 47 Year Old 45.4% 70cl / with Miniature & Certificate

This whisky was distilled in 1967 and aged in a single ex-Bourbon hogshead. It was matured for 47 years before being bottled in 2014. One of 118 bottles.

• Glenrothes 1968 The Last Drop 50.2% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1968 and aged in single cask #13508. It was bottled in 2018. One of 141 bottles.

• Glenrothes 1968 The Last Drop 51.3% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1968 and aged in single cask #13504. It was bottled in 2018. One of 168 bottles.

• Glenrothes 1969 The Last Drop 46.3% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1969 and aged in single cask #16203. It was bottled in 2019. One of 130 bottles.

• Dumbarton 1961 The Last Drop 43.5% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1961and aged in a single ex-Bourbon cask. It was bottled in 2015. One of 32 bottles.

• Dumbarton 1977 The Last Drop 42 Year Old 48.4% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1977 and aged in a single cask. It was matured for 42 years before being bottled in 2019. One of 150 bottles.

• Lochside 1972 The Last Drop 44 Year Old 44% 70cl / with Miniature

This whisky was distilled in 1972 and aged in a second-fill American oak cask. It was matured for 44 years before being bottled in 2017. One of 106 bottles.

• The Last Drop 50 Year Old 51.8% 70cl / with Miniature

This half-century blend is a marriage of over fifty different malt and grain whiskies. It was originally bottled in 1995 but a small amount was held back and transferred into ex-Oloroso sherry casks. This was then bottled in 2015 at cask strength. One of 898 bottles.

• The Last Drop 56 Year Old 47.2% 70cl / with Miniature

This blend is made up of 60% single malt and 40% grain whiskies. The youngest element was distilled in 1963 with the others being much older. Matured in ex-Sherry casks and finished in ex-Bourbon for 20 years, this was bottled in 2019. One of 732 bottles.

• The Last Drop 1971 45 Year Old 46.7% 70cl / with Miniature

This is a 1971 vintage blended whisky which conations over forty malt and grain whiskies. It has been aged in a combination of American oak and ex-Oloroso sherry casks before being bottled in 2017. One of 1,352 bottles.

• The Last Drop 1963 50 Year Old 50.9% 70cl / with Miniature

This blend is made up of 70 malt and 12 grain whiskies. It has been matured entirely in ex-Sherry casks. It was bottled in 2013. One of 388 bottles.

• The Last Drop 1965 48 Year Old 48.6% 70cl / with Miniature

This is a 1965 vintage blended whisky that has been matured in ex-Bourbon American oak casks. It was bottled in 2014. One of 592 bottles.

• The Last Drop 1960 52% 70cl / with Miniature

This is 1960 vintage blended Scotch whisky. The whisky was blended in 1972 and married together in fresh sherry butts before being bottled in 2008. One of 1,347 bottles.

• Tom's Blend No.1 18 Year Old The Last Drop 46% 70cl

This is a 18 year old blended whisky dedicated to Tom Jago. It is made up of at least 50% single malts that have been matured in a combination of sherry and American oak casks.

• Buffalo Trace 1982 The Last Drop 18 Year Old 45% 70cl / with Miniature

This whiskey was distilled in 1982 and aged in a single virgin American cask. It was matured for 18 years before being bottled in 2018. One of 44 bottles

This is a 1947 vintage cognac that was selected from a family owned, single estate in the Champagne area. It was bottled in 2017. One of 186 bottles.

This is a circa 1925 vintage cognac that was selected from a family owned, single estate in the Champagne area. It was bottled in 2018. One of 182 bottles.

This is a vintage 1950 cognac that has been matured in Limousin and Allier oak. It was casked at a strength of 68% abv and eventually bottled 60 years later in 2010. One of 478 bottles.

Lagavulin 12 Year Old White Horse 1980s

Lagavulin distillery is one of the quintessential Islay producers, built in the early 19th century before eventually finding itself in the hands of White Horse blenders and their infamous proprietor, Sir Peter Mackie. It has truly captured the imagination of the whisky world in modern times, with the 16 year old becoming an instant (if unexpected) favourite when introduced as one of United Distillers' Classic Malts in 1988. The company had not expected the smoky flavours to be as popular as lighter offerings such as Dalwhinnie and Glenkinchie. Lagavulin was also home to the legendary (and near mythical) Malt Mill distillery in the first half of the 20th century.  

This is the 12 year old age-statement that made up DCL's Ascot Malt Cellar collection, launched in 1982 alongside the Rosebank and Talisker 8 year olds, Linkwood 12 year old, and the Strathconon and Glenleven blended malts, from James Buchanan and Haig, respectively. The Ascot Malt Cellar was a spiritual successor to the Classic Malts range, within which Lagavulin retained its place, as the Islay representative. This 12 year old was discontinued though, replaced by the much-loved 16 year old expression.

Talisker 1978 40 Year Old Bodega Series No. 1

For a long time, Talisker was the sole distillery on Scotland’s iconic Isle of Skye. Renowned for the quality of its output, the distillery has rarely changed hands, joining DCL (now Diageo) back in 1916. Despite this, releases were not the most common. An 8 year old was bottled officially and Gordon & MacPhail produced what are now classic and sought after vintage bottlings under official license from the distillery. When a 10 year old expression became a founding pillar of United Distillers’ Classic Malts range in 1988, the popularity of the distillery exploded, and it is now one of the most revered and exported in Scotland.

The Bodega Series was launched in 2018 and aims to re-imagine the flavour profile of older, heavily-sherried Talisker whilst using modern techniques.  This first release of three in the series pays tribute to the Delgado bodega, the oldest in the region around Jerez. Delgado's speciality is Amontillado, and five of their most special casks were used for this Talisker's final period of maturation.

Tomatin 1972 Warehouse 6 Collection

Tomatin was once the largest distillery in Scotland, with an expansion in 1976 bringing its still count to a whopping 23 (with a capacity for 10 million litres). An over-stretch at the time, it was forced into liquidation in 1985, never having run at full capacity. The following year it became Scotland's first ever Japanese-owned distillery after it was saved by a consortium of long-term customers. Nowadays it provides the heart to the popular Antiquary blend in addition to continuing to produce a highly regarded single malt.

From the distillery's premium Warehouse 6 Collection, this was the first release. A 1972 vintage, distilled on the 20th November and filled into casks #23404, #23405 and #23406.

One of just 380 bottles filled in February 2014.

Talisker 1978 41 Year Old Bodega Series No.2

Littlemill 28 Year Old

Littlemill was one of Scotland's oldest distilleries in its time, with distilling rumoured to have taken place there as far back as the late 18th century. It has a turbulent history of ownership changes and mothballings, as well as briefly experimenting with producing lightly and heavily peated single malts called Dunglass and Dumbuck, respectively. Barton Brands, the owners at the time, called a halt to these in 1971 however. The distillery closed again for a time in the 1980s, with its stills falling silent for the final time in 1994. The distillery buildings were then lost in a fire in 1996, bringing an end to its tumultuous story.

Ladyburn-Rare Ayrshire 1974 Signatory Vintage 44 Year Old Cask Strength / 30th Anniversary

Ladyburn was a short-lived distillery, constructed by William Grant & Sons within their Girvan grain complex in 1966. The intention was to provide malt whisky for blending, easing some of the strain on Glenfiddich which was becoming a popular single malt at the time. A need for the Girvan grain distillery to expand meant that Ladyburn was dismantled after less than 10 years, closing on November 15th 1975. Official and independent bottlings are incredibly scarce as a result, but it is a well-regarded spirit amongst those who have been lucky to sample it. With the Ladyburn brand protected by William Grant & Sons, independent releases are usually bottled under a variation of the name Ayrshire.

This whisky was distilled in 1974 and aged for 44 years in a ex-Bourbon cask.

Tomintoul 1974 40 Year Old 

A rare Tomintoul, drawn from 4 American oak hogsheads, personally selected by master distiller Robert Flemming after assessing every individual cask from the 1974 distillation.

Tomintoul distillery was built in Speyside in 1965 by two whisky brokering companies. It was later acquired by the parent firm of Whyte & Mackay, and folded into their portfolio in 1973. While its main function was the provision of its blends, as with all of its distilleries, Whyte & Mackay also had faith in its appeal as a single malt. It was introduced in the iconic \"perfume bottles\" at the end of the 1970s. The single malt brand was given more of a focus when the distillery was bought by Angus Dundee in 2000, who also introduced a peated variant called Old Ballantruan in 2005.

Only 500 of these stunning decanters have been created, each presented in an attractive wooden display case.

Longmorn 1969 Signatory Vintage 28 Year Old / 10th Anniversary

Longmorn is a popular Speyside distillery, and an essential component in many blends over the years. As such, much of its production is reserved for this purpose and although distillery bottlings first appeared in the 1980s, it was rarely seen before the 15 year old expression was relaunched in 1993. The distillery has long been prominent on the independent scene however, and has cult following in Japan, perhaps in no small part to its connection with Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, who modelled the stills at Yoichi on those at Longmorn.   

This single cask was distilled on 16th September 1969, and bottled on the 8th June 1998 by Signatory Vintage to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary.

Laphroaig 21 Year Old Cask Strength / Heathrow Terminal 5

Laphroaig is the largest of the three heavyweight Islay distilleries in Kildalton, out-stripping the production capacity of neighbours, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, by over 1 million litres per annum. Despite its traditional appearance, Laphroaig was always a forward-thinking distillery. It was bottled as a single malt as early as the 1920s, an unfashionable option at the time, especially for a peated whisky. They were also shrewd in capitalising on post-Prohibition America to add trademark sweetness to their spirit through the use of imported ex-bourbon casks, and hired Scotland’s first ever female distillery manager, Bessie Williamson, in 1954. Laphroaig is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still use in-house maltings, providing them with 20% of their annual requirements, and contributing to the distillery’s unique flavour profile.

An exclusive release for the opening of Heathrow's Terminal 5, this was selected from nine of the finest casks at Laphroaig.

The following lot is for an impressive set of two whiskies distilled in 1967 from the now silent Littlemill distillery. The set has been produced by Signatory Vintage.

Lagavulin 1978 Cadenhead's Single Cask #16

Wm. Cadenhead is Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, founded in 1842 by George Duncan. His brother William Cadenhead joined the company in 1952, taking over after George’s death in 1958. The company got into the whisky bottling business after 1904, when his nephew Robert Duthie took over, and since its sale to J&A Mitchell in 1972, Wm. Cadenhead has become on of the most sought after names in whisky.

Ladyburn 1974 Batch #1 / 2014 Release

Ladyburn was a short-lived distillery, constructed by William Grant & Sons within their Girvan grain complex in 1966. The intention was to provide malt whisky for blending, easing some of the strain on Glenfiddich which was becoming a popular single malt at the time. A need for the Girvan grain distillery to expand meant that Ladyburn was dismantled after less than 10 years, closing on November 15th 1975. Official and independent bottlings are incredibly scarce as a result, but it is a well-regarded spirit amongst those who have been lucky to sample it.

The Ladyburn Distillery was built in 1966 by William Grant & Sons Ltd and only operated for a very short period until November 15th 1975.  

Their have been very few bottlings from Ladyburn, this official bottling is 39 years old and was released for the Taiwan market.

Batch #1 was distilled in 1974 and bottled in 2014.

Lagavulin 1993 Managers' Choice

Lagavulin distillery is one of the quintessential Islay producers, built in the early 19th century before eventually finding itself in the hands of White Horse blenders and their infamous proprietor, Sir Peter Mackie. It has truly captured the imagination of the whisky world in modern times, with the 16 year old becoming an instant (if unexpected) favourite when introduced as one of United Distillers' Classic Malts in 1988. The company had not expected the smoky flavours to be as popular as lighter offerings such as Dalwhinnie and Glenkinchie. Lagavulin was also home to the legendary (and near mythical) Malt Mill distillery in the first half of the 20th century.

Back in February 2009, a selection of Diageo distillery managers were tasked to choose a single cask of whisky from each of the 27 malt whisky distilleries in the company's portfolio at the time. The Managers' Choice releases were quite controversial when initially released, being fairly young whiskies with quite high price tags. Official single cask releases from these distilleries are still rare however (as are official release at all in some cases), so perhaps these would be considered quite reasonable now.

This was comfortably the most popular in the range, a 1993 vintage sherry cask release.

Tullibardine 1966 SIngle Cask #2132 / World Cup Vintage

Tullibardine distillery in Perthshire was built in 1949 and was quickly acquired by blending firm, Brodie Hepburn. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the distillery came under ownership of Whyte & Mackay in 1993, who shut it down following year. In the preceding decades, its large production capacity had filled its even larger warehouses. In addition to selling the stock to third-party blenders, Whyte & Mackay used it for their own products, including some well-regarded official single malt releases. Greater emphasis was placed on this when it was sold to new owners in 2003, who re-casked much of the stock in order to launch this reinvigorated version of the Tullibardine brand.

Bottled in 2006, this World Cup Vintage was bottled to celebrate the tournament in Germany that summer, and was distilled 40 years earlier in the year that England won it (for the only time). Drawn from single sherry cask #2132.

Littlemill 1990 22 Year Old

Littlemill was one of Scotland's oldest distilleries in its time, with distilling rumoured to have taken place there as far back as the late 18th century. It has a turbulent history of ownership changes and mothballings, as well as briefly experimenting with producing lightly and heavily peated single malts called Dunglass and Dumbuck, respectively. Barton Brands, the owners at the time, called a halt to these in 1971 however. The distillery closed again for a time in the 1980s, with its stills falling silent for the final time in 1994. The distillery buildings were then lost in a fire in 1996, bringing an end to its tumultuous story.

This whisky was distilled in 1990 and aged for 22 years. One of 301 bottles.

Lagavulin 15 Year Old White Horse Decanter 1980s

Lagavulin distillery is one of the quintessential Islay producers, built in the early 19th century before eventually finding itself in the hands of White Horse blenders and their infamous proprietor, Sir Peter Mackie. It has truly captured the imagination of the whisky world in modern times, with the 16 year old becoming an instant (if unexpected) favourite when introduced as one of United Distillers' Classic Malts in 1988. The company had not expected the smoky flavours to be as popular as lighter offerings such as Dalwhinnie and Glenkinchie. Lagavulin was also home to the legendary (and near mythical) Malt Mill distillery in the first half of the 19th century.  

DCL (now Diageo) acquired Lagavulin in 1927, and it was commonplace for them to grant the licenses for their distilleries to the subsidiary blending companies within their portfolio. Lagavulin was obtained through their acquisition of White Horse Distillers, and remained an important component of its blends, so the license was immediately granted to its former owner along with Glen Elgin. 

This was produced alongside the 12 year old (part of the Ascot Malt Cellar), before the Lagavulin single malt brand was relaunched as part of the Classic Malts, seeing both discontinued in favour of the 16 year old.

Tomintoul 1973 Double Wood 45 Year Old

Tomintoul distillery was built in Speyside in 1965 by two whisky brokering companies. It was later acquired by the parent firm of Whyte & Mackay, and folded into their portfolio in 1973. While its main function was the provision of its blends, as with all of its distilleries, Whyte & Mackay also had faith in its appeal as a single malt. It was introduced in the iconic \"perfume bottles\" at the end of the 1970s. The single malt brand was given more of a focus when the distillery was bought by Angus Dundee in 2000, who also introduced a peated variant called Old Ballantruan in 2005.

Released in October 2018, this is Tomintoul distillery's first 1973 vintage release. Limited to only 240 bottles, this 45 year old whisky has been matured in White Oak American casks and finished in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.

Laphroaig 32 Year Old

One of several Laphroaig bottlings released to commemorate their 200th anniversary, 1815 to 2015.

Laphroaig is the largest of the three heavyweight Islay distilleries in Kildalton, out-stripping the production capacity of neighbours, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, by over 1 million litres per annum. Despite its traditional appearance, Laphroaig was always a forward-thinking distillery. It was bottled as a single malt as early as the 1920s, an unfashionable option at the time, especially for a peated whisky. They were also shrewd in capitalising on post-Prohibition America to add trademark sweetness to their spirit through the use of imported ex-bourbon casks, and hired Scotland’s first ever female distillery manager, Bessie Williamson, in 1954. Laphroaig is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still use in-house maltings, providing them with 20% of their annual requirements, and contributing to the distillery’s unique flavour profile.

This is one of the oldest ever from Laphroaig, matured for 32 years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks this was incredibly popular at retail selling out almost immediately.

Talisker 1979 Cadenhead's Single Cask #4

For a long time, Talisker was the sole distillery on Scotland’s iconic Isle of Skye. Renowned for the quality of its output, the distillery has rarely changed hands, joining DCL (now Diageo) back in 1916. Despite this, releases were not the most common. An 8 year old was bottled officially and Gordon & MacPhail produced what are now classic and sought after vintage bottlings under official license from the distillery. When a 10 year old expression became a founding pillar of United Distillers’ Classic Malts range, the popularity of the distillery exploded, and it is now one of the most revered and exported in Scotland. As such, independent bottlings like this are scarce, and particularly sought after when they appear.

Wm. Cadenhead is Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, founded in 1842 by George Duncan. His brother William Cadenhead joined the company in 1952, taking over after George’s death in 1958. The company got into the whisky bottling business after 1904, when his nephew Robert Duthie took over, and since its sale to J&A Mitchell in 1972, Wm. Cadenhead has become on of the most sought after names in whisky.

As such, much of its production is reserved for this purpose and although distillery bottlings first appeared in the 1980s, it was rarely seen before the 15 year old expression was relaunched in 1993. The distillery has long prominent on the independent scene however, and has cult following in Japan, perhaps in no small part to its connection with Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru, who modelled the stills at Yoichi on those at Longmorn.  

This is a very rare distillery bottling, produced to commemorate the centenary of the distillery in 1994.

Douglas Laing & Co was established in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, affectionately known as “FDL.” The company started out as a blending business, but over time their focus shifted towards independently bottlings single malts. Fred died in 1982, leaving the business to his two sons, Stewart and Fred Jr, who eventually carved it up in 2013, with Stewart leaving to establish Hunter Laing. Fred Jr and his daughter Cara now run Douglas Laing, which continues to bottle single malt and has also revived its blending business. Additionally, the company has recently moved into distilling as well, announcing plans to construct the new Clutha distillery in Glasgow, and taking over Strathearn in Perthshire in 2019.

This is part of the premium Old & Rare series. Launched in 2001, it was bottled by Douglas Laing until 2013 when the brand became part of the Hunter Laing portfolio instead.

Ladyburn-Ayrshire That Boutique-y Whisky Company Batch #1

Launched in 2012, That Boutique-y Whisky Company is an independent bottler and subsidiary of the Atom Group in Kent, England. Their releases are notable for their use of comic book style graphic labels, often with irreverent industry jokes concealed within them. Their catalogue is hugely expansive, covering whiskies from all over the world, and they are now joined by sister companies who bottle Gin and Rum.

Oban 16 Year Old Manager's Dram Bicentenary 1994

The Manager’s Dram series of whiskies were bottled exclusively for employees of what is now known as Diageo.  These whiskies were selected by the respective distillery managers within Diageo malt distilling and bottled at natural cask strength.

Bottled to celebrate Oban’s 200th anniversary in 1994, this 16 year old was released exclusively from sherry casks by distillery manager John William and his employees listed on the rear of the bottle.

Oban is a small distillery, situated in the heart of the high street in the town after which it is named. Although its output is deliberately low in order to retain its character, it had an early presence on the single malt scene, with the blending company John Hopkins & Co, under license from DCL, introduced a 12 year old expression back in 1979. Tomintoul 1966 Douglas Laing 37 Year Old / Old and Rare

Tomintoul distillery was built in Speyside in 1965 by two whisky brokering companies. It was later acquired by the parent firm of Whyte & Mackay, and folded into their portfolio in 1973. While its main function was the provision of its blends, as with all of its distilleries, Whyte & Mackay also had faith in its appeal as a single malt. It was introduced in the iconic \"perfume bottles\" at the end of the 1970s. The single malt brand was given more of a focus when the distillery was bought by Angus Dundee in 2000, who also introduced a peated variant called Old Ballantruan in 2005. Bottles from independent labels have also been common over the years.

This whisky was distilled in 1966 and aged for 37 years. It was finished in a ex-Rum cask before bottling. 

Douglas Laing & Co was established in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, affectionately known as “FDL.” The company started out as a blending business, but over time their focus shifted towards independently bottlings single malts. Fred died in 1982, leaving the business to his two sons, Stewart and Fred Jr, who eventually carved it up in 2013, with Stewart leaving to establish Hunter Laing. Fred Jr and his daughter Cara now run Douglas Laing, which continues to bottle single malt and has also revived its blending business. Additionally, the company has recently moved into distilling as well, announcing plans to construct the new Clutha distillery in Glasgow, and taking over Strathearn in Perthshire in 2019.

This is part of the premium Old & Rare series. Launched in 2001, it was bottled by Douglas Laing until 2013 when the brand became part of the Hunter Laing portfolio instead.

Littlemill 1965 Signatory Vintage 32 Year Old / 10th Anniversary

Signatory Vintage were established in 1988 by Andrew Symington and are one of Scotland's most prolific independent bottlers. Their offices and bottling facility are located next to Edradour distillery, which they have also owned since 2002.

This 1965 vintage Littlemill was bottled in 1998 to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary. Cask #5275 produced only 192 bottles.

Littlemill was one of Scotland's oldest distilleries in its time, with distilling rumoured to have taken place there as far back as the late 18th century.​​ It has a turbulent history of ownership changes and mothballings, as well as briefly experimenting with producing a lightly and heavily peated single malt as well, called Dunglass and Dumbuck, respectively. Barton Brands, the owners at the time, called a halt to these in 1971 however. The distillery closed again for a time in the 1980s, with its still falling silent for the final time in 1994. The distillery buildings were then lost in a fire in 1996, bringing an end to the its tumultuous story.

Laphroaig 7 Year Old PX Hogshead / Dr Jekyll's

Laphroaig is the largest of the three heavyweight Islay distilleries in Kildalton, out-stripping the production capacity of neighbours, Ardbeg and Lagavulin, by over 1 million litres per annum. Despite its traditional appearance, Laphroaig was always a forward-thinking distillery. It was bottled as a single malt as early as the 1920s, an unfashionable option at the time, especially for a peated whisky. They were also shrewd in capitalising on post-Prohibition America to add trademark sweetness to their spirit through the use of imported ex-bourbon casks, and hired Scotland’s first ever female distillery manager, Bessie Williamson, in 1954. Laphroaig is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland to still use in-house maltings, providing them with 20% of their annual requirements, and contributing to the distillery’s unique flavour profile.

This incredibly rare Laphroaig has been aged for 7 years in ex-Pedro Ximénez wood. It was selected by a team from the Dr. Jekyll's pub Olso, Norway on 14th Match 2021.

Lochside 1981 Cadenhead's 30 Year Old

Lochside was founded in 1957, however single malt vintages only date from the early to mid-1960s and from the early 1980s as its Spanish owners in the intervening period, Destilerias y Crianzas (DYC), used its malt exclusively for export blends. Prior to this it was in the hands of Joseph Hobbs who had operated both pot and a coffey still, blending both malt and grain at birth for the distillery's Sandy MacNab brand. Some of these \"blended at birth\" casks have subsequently been bottled by independent labels. The practice stopped with Hobbs' death in 1964, and the distillery exclusively produced malt until it eventually closed in 1992.

This whisky was distilled in 1981 and aged for 30 years in a ex-Bourbon hogshead.

Wm. Cadenhead is Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, founded in 1842 by George Duncan. His brother William Cadenhead joined the company in 1952, taking over after George’s death in 1958. The company got into the whisky bottling business after 1904, when his nephew Robert Duthie took over, and since its sale to J&A Mitchell in 1972, Wm. Cadenhead has become on of the most sought after names in whisky.
