Bottle Details

Miltonduff 1978 Scotia Royale 34 Year Old

Miltonduff is located in Speyside and is perhaps best known as one of the key malts in the Ballantine's blends. It was purchased by Hiram Walker in the 1930s, who installed the Lomond stills that briefly produced the now sought after Mosstowie single malts in 1964, but these were removed again in 1981. The distillery passed through the hands Allied Distillers before arriving with current owners, Pernod-Ricard, and despite its continued requirements for Ballantine's blends, official bottlings of its single malt have been deemed worthy of bottling by each of its proprietors, a sentiment shared by many independent companies too.

This Miltonduff was distilled in 1978 and matured for 34 years. It was bottled by Loch Lomond Distillers under the Scotia Royale label.

The Scotia Royale brand was devised by A. Gillie & Co, former proprietors of the Glen Scotia distillery. The company produced Scotia Royale as a blend up until the closure of the distillery in 1984. Its subsequent ownership, Loch Lomond Distillers, revived the brand around 2012 as an independent bottling label, and produced only a handful of these well-aged single cask releases before it was sold to a UK based private equity management firm called Exponent in 2014, and a again in 2019 to Hillhouse Capital Management in Asia. The subsequent ownership preferred to focus on the brand as a blend again, so these single malt releases are a real rarity.
