Bottle Details

Glen Crinan Fine Scots Whisky circa 1940s

A spectacularly rare Highland malt whisky from the pot stills of Glenfyne distillery.

Built in 1831 on the banks of Crinan Canal in Ardrishaig, the Glenfyne distillery is a little-known name in the whisky world. Perhaps better recognised is the Glen Fyne blend, which was was produced by Robertson & Baxter for export to the US following the close of Prohibtion, and was circulated until the 1970s. The blend almost certainly initially contained some Glenfyne malt, but the distillery closed in 1937, so later examples will have done without. This is a single malt, named Glen Crinan for the waterway outside, and is especially rare given the category was still relatively unfashionable in the 1940s when this would have been bottled.

Although little is heard of the distillery or the eponymous blend, the Glenfyne Distilling Company is still registered on the books at Robertson & Baxter's parent firm, Edrington.
