Glenmorangie 1993 Swamp Oak Single Cask 75cl

A bottle with a tale attached!

Filled on the 10th May 1993 into cask #1946 and bottled on 7th September 2005.

Part of a series of oak experiments by Bill Lumsden, the others being Missouri Oak, Truffle Oak, Post Oak and Burr Oak.

Swamp Oak was the lowest outturn of the series, with only 247 bottles produced and was intended for release in the North American market.

It is believed that the entire shipment of bottles was lost in transit and so never made it to open market. After several years the bottles were recovered and returned to Glenmorangie, where the majority are still held.

William L. Weller 2015 Release

The 2015 release within the famous and eagerly awaited Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, which celebrates historic bourbon brands and figures. Buffalo Trace's parent company, Sazerac, purchased the Weller brand from United Distillers in 1999, 7 years after they had shut down the distilling operation at the legendary Stitzel-Weller.

William Larue Weller was a 19th century whiskey rectifier and distiller, who's W.L. Weller and Sons company was run by the legendary Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle. The Weller and Van Winkle brands are both produced at Buffalo Trace distillery nowadays, distilled to very similar old Stitzel-Weller recipes, and are among the most sought after bourbons on the market.

The 2015 release is aged 12 years.

Guckenheimer 1931 Bottled in Bond Pennsylvania Straight Rye Pint / Prohibition Era Bottling

A bottle of Good Old Guckenheimer, distilled during Prohibition in the US in 1931. Prohibition had banned the production and consumption of alcohol there since 1920, however a select number of distilleries were permitted to continue bottling whiskey for medicinal purposes, and latterly to distil it as well. This, distilled at the Guckenheimer Distillery in Logansport by the Pennsylvania Distillery Inc, is some of that whiskey.

Prohibition was repealed in 1933, opening up the whiskey market again. This bottle was one of the first back on the scene, released in 1935. The rye whiskey was bottled in bond by the Pennsylvania Distilling Company at their warehouses in Brooklyn, NY.

The Guckenheimer brand still exists, passing over time from the hands of the Pennsylvania Distillery Company, potentially to Adolph Hirsch (of A.H. Hirsch fame) to Schenley, and finally to Heaven Hill who produce the brand today.
