A book detailing one of the most iconic ranges of whisky from one of the most iconic independent bottling companies. 

Cascade Kentucky Straight Bourbon 1970s

Cascade bourbon was a brand produced for many years by Schenley , one of the \"big four\" distilling companies to emerge in the US after the repeal of Prohibition, alongside Hiram Walker, Seagram's and National Distillers.

Schenley acquired the Cascade Distilling Company from Geroge Dickel in 1937, who had been forced out of their historic home in Tennessee by its early adoption of Prohibition, and moved their distilling to Kentucky. Schenley did however revive the Tennessee distillery in 1958 after they lost out to Brown-Forman in a bid to buy Jack Daniel's.

This was distilled at the George T. Stagg distillery (known nowadays as Buffalo Trace), and was bottled in 1970 at Schenley's distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Invergordon 1964 Adelphi 41 Year Old 

If you haven't heard, old grain whisky can be fantastic!  This very well aged single cask #57637 release from Invergordon distillery was distilled in 1964 and bottled in 2005. 

Only 105 bottles of this cask strength 41 year old whisky was released.

Clynelish 14 Year Old Flora and Fauna / Wooden Box

One of the discontinued famous Flora and Fauna bottlings, Clynelish 14 year old.

Cragganmore 12 Year Old D&J McCallum 1980s

​A bottle of Cragganmore bottled during the 1980s for D&J McCallum Ltd, who used the single malt as a core constituent of their McCallum's Perfection blend.

Caroni 2000 High Proof 17 Year Old​ 75cl / US Import

Distilled and matured in Trinidad, this was the first exclusive edition of the Caroni 2000 vintage to be bottled for the US market.

A stock of 7 barrels yielded only 2700 bottles in 2017.

Caol Ila distilled in 1979 matured 33 years in an ex-bourbon cask and bottled in  2012 by Liquid Sun.

An independent single cask bottling of Inchgower, bottled for Sansibar in 2013.

Distilled in 1975, this is one of 186 bottles. 

Irish Single Malt 1991 Whisky Agency 24 Year Old / Formosa Whisky Society

This Irish single malt was distilled in 1991 and bottled by The Whisky Agency in 2015. 

Bottled exclusively for the 1st anniversary of the Formosa Whisky Society.

Distilled in 1995 at Clynelish distillery in the Highlands of Scotland and bottled by Malts of Scotland in 2015. 

Bottle number 57 of only 154 bottles drawn from single sherry hogshead.

Cambus 1982 Douglas Laing 35 Year Old / XOP

This is a Douglas Laing bottling of single grain from Cambus, part of their Xtra Old Particular series. XOP is their ultra-premium range, launched in 2013 and reserved for casks considered the \"family jewels.\"

Distilled in 1982 and bottled from a single refill hogshead #12535 in June 2018.

Caol Ila 1990 Douglas Laing 28 Year Old / XOP

Distilled in March 1990 and bottled by Douglas Laing in June 2018. Charged from refill hogshead #12536, this is bottle number 105 of 201. 

Irish Single Malt 1991 Whisky Agency 24 Year Old / Komplex

Distilled in 1991 and matured for 24 years before being bottled in 2015 for The Whisky Agency in collaboration with Komplex Whisky, Sweden.

One of only 157 bottles.

I.W. Harper Carboy Bottle circa 1880s

The I.W. prefix in this whiskey's name derives from Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, who founded the brand. With his brother he helped establish Louisville in Kentucky as a centre for Bourbon production. Sadly, he felt Harper was a more marketable name than his own to apply to the bottles. 

Despite having been taxed in the US at some point in the 1930s or 1940s, this is certainly much older than that. An I.W. Harper promotional poster used by then-owners of the brand, Schenley in 1963, dated the use of this bottle to the 1880s. It is known as a 'Carboy,' a type of wicker-clad demijohn which took its name from the Persian word qarābah, meaning \"big jug.\"

The Bernheim brothers were whisky \"rectifiers\" at this point in time. This means that they did not actually distil whisky themselves, but produced it by blending barrels they had procured with grain neutral spirits and often flavourings. The profitability of this provoked much ire from legitimate distillers, and the Bottled in Bond act of 1897, spearheaded by EH Taylor Jr eventually put an end to the practice. The Bernheim's and other rectifiers like WL Weller and Sons would go on to become some of Kentucky's greatest producers of bourbon, despite their opposition to the bill.

In the days of the rectifying business, the 'whiskey' was kept in barrel in shops, and customers could bring anything from a small cup, to a larger jug such as this to be filled. The Bernheim brothers were a professional outfit with an early eye for strong branding, and they likely produced these reusable bottles for their clients.

As a result of this, it is impossible to ascertain what is in this bottle, or if it is even whiskey. As such this is offered at auction as a collectible item only. We refer to I.W. Harper only by the inscription on the glass, and it should be recognised that we are in no way describing the contents as such.

A very unusual blended malt from Bruichladdich, combining Irish whisky with 1994 Bruichladdich, and a touch of Port Charlotte.

A one-off bottling as the blending of Scotch Whisky and Irish Whiskey has been banned by the SWA.

One of only 7200 bottles.

Carsebridge 1976 Douglas Laing 40 Year Old / XOP

Distilled in October 1976 and matured in a refill hogshead for 40 years. 

Bottled in February 2017, this is a fantastically well-aged dram from this closed distillery.

Hailing from Buffalo Trace, this brand applies methods and mashbills comparable to those introduced by Colonel E. H. Taylor. Edmund Haynes Taylor is generally considered to be the father of modern bourbon, recognising the the importance of strong brands and building numerous important distilleries, including Old Fashioned Copper (OFC, better known today as Buffalo Trace).

Taylor's \"Colonel\" title is not a military prefix, but actually refers to the honourary title, Kentucky Colonel. He shares this with many famous sons of Kentucky, but perhaps none more so than a certain Fried Chicken vendor...

The 2018 barrel proof release is bottled at a hefty 129.7 US proof.
