Felipe II Solera Especial Brandy 1962

Brandy de Jerez is brandy from the Jerez region of Spain - where sherry comes from.

It is aged by the Solera method like sherry i.e. new is mixed with old on a systematic basis, accelerating the maturation process. Theoretically, there is some portion of the first brandy ever aged by the distiller in there! Brandy de Jerez is generally sweeter than cognac and has a nice complexity. Felipe II is sweet, with a nice roundness to the flavour. It is also interesting to note that since alembic distilling was begun by Muslims and the Jerez region was under their rule from many years, brandy de Jerez has quite a pedigree.

Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon 1980s

A 1980s bottling of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey from the Four Roses distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Once always stated as a 6 year old, former Four Roses Master Distiller, Jim Rutledge has confirmed that the modern iteration is a blend of 5.5 to 10 year old bourbons.

At this time the brand was produced by Seagram's who, preferring to promote their Seven Crown as the whiskey brand of choice in the US, limited Four Roses as a straight bourbon to the export market. US customers had to make do with a blended \"light\" whisky variant until the brand was acquired by Kirin in 2002, who re-introduced it to its native market.

An 1980s 1 litre size bottling of Four Roses.

At this point the Four Roses straight bourbon was unavailable in the US market and was produced exclusively for export, primarily the Japanese and European markets. Instead, Seagram's bottled this blended whiskey for its American consumers. This was produced and bottled at a combination of their Dundalk distillery in Maryland (closed since the early 1990s), and their famous Indiana distillery, nowadays known as MGP.

The blend is 35% straight whiskies, and 65% grain neutral spirits.
