Guckenheimer 1931 Pennsylvania Straight Rye 1 Pint / Prohibition Era

A bottle of Good Old Guckenheimer, distilled during Prohibition in the US in 1931. Prohibition had banned the production and consumption of alcohol there since 1920, however a select number of distilleries were permitted to continue making whiskey for medicinal purposes. This, distilled at the Guckenheimer Distillery in Logansport by the Pennsylvania Distillery Inc, is some of that whiskey.

Prohibition was repealed in 1933, opening up the whiskey market again. This bottle was one of the first back on the scene, released in 1935. The rye whiskey was bottled in bond by the Pennsylvania Distilling Company at their warehouses in Brooklyn, NY.

The Guckenheimer brand still exists, passing over time from the hands of the Pennsylvania Distillery Company, potentially to Adolph Hirsch (of A.H. Hirsch fame) to Schenley, and finally to Heaven Hill who produce the brand today.

Glen Avon 25 Year Old Decanter 1980s / Sestante Import

A wonderful old bottling of a mystery Speyside by Gordon and MacPhail.

The Sestante import company was founded in the 1970s by Ernesto Mainardi, and he bottled his first single casks under the name in 1985. Alongside his contemporary, Silvano Samaroli, Mainardi pioneered giving his customers a choice of both standard 40-46% bottlings, and cask strength releases from the same casks. Along with his other brand, Silver Seal, Mainardi's bottlings are incredibly sought after.

Mainardi imported a lot of Glen Avon in the 1980s, bottling several of these spectacular dark sherry casks in his famous crystal decanters.

Mainardi was a former employee of Co. Import, Pinerolo, and was inspired to bottle these crystal decanters based on similar bottlings of Macallan that they had produced. The Sestante decanters were Edinburgh crystal, and Mainardi estimates he produced around 3500 of these over the years.
