Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare 1st Edition / Brora

A limited release of Johnnie Walker's most premium brand. The Ghost and Rare blends will focus on Scotland's lost and sorely missed distilleries, with this first release built around malt from the legendary Brora. Other \"Ghosts\" rearing their welcome heads from the annals of whisky history is malt from lost Speyside distillery Pittyvaich, and Cambus grain, which closed in 2002 and 1993 respectively.

Given that Brora shut it's doors in 1983, were talking about whisky that was distilled at least 34 years ago!

Speaking of the Ghost and Rare series, master blender Jim Beveridge had the following to say:

“Whiskies from these ghost distilleries are becoming increasingly rare. From our library of irreplaceable casks that we keep exclusively for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, I've chosen a few uniquely full-bodied expressions of these precious malts and grains to let people explore, in a new way, the extraordinary richness found in our pinnacle whisky.”

J.W. Dant 1979 Bottled in Bond 100 Proof 1 Litre

An old bottle of J.W. Dant sour mash bourbon. This bottle was distilled in 1979 and bottled in bond in 1984.

Joseph Washington Dant was a Kentucky distiller during the 1830's He was famous for making whisky using a log still. This was an old time method from when the settlers did not have the money for a copper still. A section of tree trunk would be hollowed out with a copper pipe running through it. The hollowed section would be filled with the fermented mash and steam fed through the pipe to start distillation

Interestingly, the back label states that this was distilled at DSP-KY-113, now known as Buffalo Trace (George T. Stagg at the time). The Dant Gesthemane distillery had closed in 1961, and then proprietors, Schenley, were procuring barrels from elswhere and bottling them at their distillery in Indiana. The brand is now owned by Heaven Hill.

J.W. Dant 7 Year Old Bourbon 1960s

An old bottle of J.W. Dant sour mash bourbon. This bottle date from the late 1960's.

Joseph Washington Dant was a Kentucky distiller during the 1830's He was famous for making whisky using a log still. This was an old time method from when the settlers did not have the money for a copper still. A section of tree trunk would be hollowed out with a copper pipe running through it. The hollowed section would be filled with the fermented mash and steam fed through the pipe to start distillation.

These days the Dant brand is produced at Heaven Hill. This 1960's bottling however was produced at the Schenley, who acquired the Dant Gesthemane distillery in 1952, where this was distilled. Gesthemane closed in the early 1960's so this would have been bottled at Schenley in Indiana.

Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select 1 Litre / Signed

\"Bottled at 90 proof, and made with unique “Sinatra Barrels”, Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select pays tribute to Jack’s biggest fan: Mr. Frank Sinatra. These Sinatra barrels have deep grooves on the inside of the staves — which exposes the whiskey to extra layers of oak. This imparts a rich amber color, bold character and a pleasant smokiness, followed by an incredibly smooth vanilla finish. Much like Frank himself, this whiskey is one of a kind.\"

Signed by Jeff Arnett in 2014.

John Jameson 12 Year Old 1980s

With one eye on warehouses full of aging stock, and another across the Atlantic to a United States of America set to repeal the Prohibition Act, a 12 Year Old Jameson was first bottled in 1932. This premium expression was distilled in the quintessential Irish style, from a mash of malted and unmalted cereals in traditional copper pots.

The first Jameson 12 blend represents a significant change in Irish distilling at the time, one that likely saved the industry. The Jameson, Powers and Cork distilling companies had banded together as irish Distillers in an effort to pool resources and capitalise on what was about to become a hugely expanded export market. Jameson was pushed as the poster boy and in an effort to appeal to international tastes at the time, the old Irish pot still whiskeys would henceforth become the modern blends that we recognise today.

This particular blend is a marriage of both of Irelands great closed distilleries, Jameson's Bow Street, and Powers' John's Lane. The pure pot still content is from Bow Street, and the grain, since Jameson's did not have a patent still, came from John's Lane. There is some serious Irish distilling history captured in this bottle. We hear it doesn't taste too bad either!

I.W. Harper President's Reserve Decanter

The I.W is named after Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, who founded the brand. With his brother he helped establish Louisville, Kentucky as a centre for Bourbon production.

This President's Reserve bottling is a great example of a well aged Bourbon. Although Bernheim is now owned by Heaven Hill, Diageo continued to produce the brand using whisky distilled there. It was aged in Stizel-Weller warehouses and then bottled at their George Dickel plant at Cascade Hollow in Tennessee.
