Park and Tilford 1916 Bottled in Bond 16 Year Old Pint / Prohibition Era Bottling

Park & Tilford were established in 1840 and were one of the few companies to survive prohibition. As owners of a New York drug store, they were able to acquire a medicinal license to bottle whiskey. The medicinal license was a legal loophole that allowed whiskey to be prescribed by doctors and rum to be rationed to bakers for use in their cooking. Very few companies were bale to acquire these, but those who did, kept the US whiskey industry afloat and in a position to be revived once the Prohibition Act, which had banned all sale and consupmtion of alcohol, was repealed in 1933.

This was bottled just a month before the repeal of the act. The whiskey was distilled in 1916, prior to the closure of America's distilleries in 1917 with the passing of the Prohibition act. Park & Tilford acquired the whiskey from the United American Co, who had distilled it at what was once the original Bernheim facility, home of the I.W Harper brand.

Park & Tilford attempting to make a larger play in the whiskey market during Prohibition, even at one point purchasing Old Overholt and Pennsylvania's Large distillery in 1925, although they subsequently surrendered them to the superior financial muscle of the newly formed National Distillers just two years later. The company persevered however, purchasing the Bonnie Bros facility and distilled there well into the 1970s.
