Suntory’s flagship distillery, Yamazaki distillery was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923.

The town of Yamazaki was chosen to be the site of Japan’s first commercial distillery due to its very ‘Scottish’ climate and with it being an area where three rivers converge.

The first spirit ran from the stills in 1924, on 11th November at 11:11am.

• 20 year old European oak sherry cask
• 20 year old European oak port casks
• young (un-aged) American white oak bourbon casks

A fantastically rare Yamazaki produced exclusively for the World Cocktail Championships held in Tokyo in 2016. 

The core is 18 year old Mizunara casked whisky supplemented with 20 year old Spanish oak aged and 30 year old Mizunara casked whiskies.

Part of the 2018 series, The Essence of Suntory Whisky, this is a peated malt produced at their flagship Yamazaki distillery.

Distilled in 2005 and bottled at a higher strength of 49%.

Yamazaki 2008 Refill Sherry Cask 50cl / The Essence of Suntory

Part of the 2019 additions to the series, The Essence of Suntory Whisky, this is a refill sherry cask matured single malt, produced at their flagship Yamazaki distillery.

Distilled in 2008 and bottled at a higher strength of 53%.

Yamazakura 16 Year Old

A blend named after the Yamazakura distillery which was closed in 1998.

From the fairly abstruse label text this is a vatting of 18 and 19 year old whisky that is married in a sherry barrel for a further 3 years. Though one might imagine were that the case, it would be declared as a 21 years old. 

Eigashima 2015 Akashi Ex-Sake Cask 50cl / Ghost Series #9 

Akashi is the name given to the the single malt produced at the Eigashima distillery. The site is often also referred to as the White Oak distillery, after the blend it produces. Because demand for White Oak is so high, most Eigashima single malt is reserved for this, so Akashi is quite rare.

This is a 2015 vintage single cask, matured in ex-Sake barrel #101520.

Only 500 bottles were produced.
