Flora and Fauna Complete Collection - 26 Bottles

The Flora and Fauna series of whiskies was originally created in the early 1990s by United Distillers Vintners (what would later become Diageo).  Originally this range had no name and it was not until the famous whisky writer Michael Jackson nicknamed it the 'Flora and Fauna' series due to the labels, did it stick.  The Flora and Fauna series, as offered in this lot, contains a total of 26 distillery expressions. Not all of these were released at the same time and many have now been discontinued, the last of which  was to be the Mortlach 16 year old, perhaps the most loved of all of these whiskies.

Glenlivet 1962 - 1993 Ivan Straker's Retirement 

We think this could be one of the rarest Glenlivets.

This special bottling of 36 bottles of 18 year old Glenlivet was given to Major Ivan Straker on his retirement as the Chairman of Seagrams in 1993. Major Ivan Straker is perhaps better known as the man who \"saved the Grand National'.

He worked for the company between 1962 and 1993 and on his retirement was awarded 36 of these bottles.  After much research and discussion we are fairly sure that the majority was consumed in his own home with only one bottle appearing at auction since 1993.

This bottle was gifted to a friend who has kept it hidden away until this point...this could well and truly be one of two bottles remaining of this Glenlivet.

Glenmorangie 1963

One of the rarest Glenmorangies , this stunning vintage was distilled in 1963 and matured for 22 years.

Matured in bourbon casks before a final finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks.

Excellent condition and fill level.

Glen Grant Circa 1950s

This unusual bottling of Glen Grant was probably produced as an independent bottling during the 1950s.  A remarkable bottle and an excellent piece of 'Glen Grant/Whisky' history

As you can see little information is provided, there is no alcohol strength or bottle size given on this item.

The bottle is in excellent condition but please note there is residue and sediment within the bottle - most likely due to the lack of 'filtering' when bottling at this time..

Glenugie 1959 Cadenhead's 18 Year Old

A very, very rare Glenugie, bottled by Cadenheads.

Distilled in January 1959 and bottled in June 1977, this 18 year old whisky was awarded a spectacular 93 points on Whisky Fun.

Glenmorangie 1974 Original Maltings 

An elegant 50cl bottle of Glenmorangie, distilled in 1974 using malt from Glenmorangie's original floor maltings, which have since closed, bottled in 1999 before the millenium.

This is bottle number 1127 of 2,000.

Glenburgie 1985 Commemorative Bottling - Opening of the New Distillery

A very rare gift pack containing a vintage 1985 Glenburgie and two branded glasses, released to commemorate the opening of the new Glenburgie distillery in 2005, 195 years after the first distillery was established on the same site in 1810.

Less than 200 bottles/gift packs were released.

Distilled in 1985 and bottled in 2005 at cask strength 57.3%.

A fantastic whisky from one of Scotland's last independents.

An independant bottling of this now very rare distillery, from the Rarest of the Rare range from Duncan Taylor.

Distilled in July 1984 and bottled by Duncan Taylor in August 2007 from Cask #3051.

Glen Albyn 1974 Signatory Vintage 30 Year Old

An excellent indy bottling of Glen Albyn by Signatory Vintage, distilled on the 19th April 1974 and bottled on the 18th March 2004.

Single Cask #1397 yielded 169 bottles, this is bottle number 116.

Glen Ord 30 Year Old Limited Edition 2005

A 30 year old cask strength Glen Ord, bottled within the old style elegant square bottle back in 2005.

There really are very few Glenugie's around these days, this Douglas Laing bottling was distilled in May 1976 and bottled in May 2002.

Limited to only 282 bottles.

Glen Elgin 16 Year Old Manager's Dram 1993

The Manager’s Dram series of whiskies were bottled exclusively for employees of what is now known as Diageo.  These whiskies were selected by the respective distillery managers within Diageo malt distilling and bottled at natural cask strength.

A 16 year old Glen Elgin, sherry cask matured and chosen by distillery manager Harry Fox, bottled on 31.10.1993.

Glen Ord 1973 Rare Malt 23 Year Old 75cl

The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.

This Glen Ord was distilled in 1973 and bottled 23 years later, this is bottle number 4991.

Glenfiddich Cask of Dreams 2011 Release (US Import) 75cl

This is a bottle of the original Cask of Dreams release by Glenfiddich, strictly to the US market in 2011.

Idividuals were asked to sign and record their dreams on casks that was travelling around America.  Once finished of the tour the cask was flown back to Scotland and filled with 14 year old Glenfiddich and matured for a further three months.  The total out-turn of the Cask of Dreams was 3,500 bottles available only within the US.

Glendullan 1972 Rare Malt 23 Year Old (US Release) 75cl

The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.

One of the rarer Glendullan's, this 23 year old was distilled in 1972 and released for the US market.

Bottled at an impressive 62.43% / 124.8% Proof and 750ml.

Glenturret 1976

A rare old vintage of Glenturret, distilled in 1976 and bottled in 1986.

Glenfiddich Cask of Dreams 2012 (US Import) 75cl

Quite an unusual story behind this one.  

Following the success of the first cask, which Idividuals were asked to sign and record their dreams on casks that was travelling around America.  This cask was filled with whisky no younger than 14 years old. The total out-turn of the Cask of Dreams was 6,600 bottles available only within the US.  Various other 2012 releases were also available.

Glen Albyn 1972 Gordon and Macphail 25 Year Old

One of three famous closed distilleries from Inverness, this Glen Albyn is bottled by Gordon and Macphail.

Distilled 1972 and bottled in 1997.

Glenfarclas Last of the Millenium 1 Litre

Exclusive to Glenfarclas visitor centre this whisky was bottled to commemorate the last filling of a cask on 31st December 1999.

Glenmorangie Ealanta 1993

The fourth edition of Glenmorangie's Private Edition range, the Ealanta was released in 2013.

Distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2013, this Glenmorangie was matured fully in virgin American white oak casks.

Glenlochy 1980 Signatory Vintage 25 Year Old

There are not many Glenlochy bottlings around. Signatory Vintage bottled this one in July 2006 and it was distilled in September 1980.

Bottle No 42 of 274.

Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Havana Reserve

The short lived 'Havana' Reserve 21 year old Glenfiddich, which was removed from circulation due to causing issues in the US with it's association with Cuba.

Finished in rum casks, this whisky was replaced eventually with the current 21 year old Glenfiiddich Gran Reserva.

The late Iain Banks in his search for the perfect dram in his book Raw Spirit, claimed this to be it.
