Tormore 2011 Lady Of The Glen 10 Year Old #80006

Tormore is one of Speyside's most aesthetically pleasing distilleries, designed in 1959 by Sir Albert Richardson (then president of the Royal Academy). It was built by the Schenley company in order to provide malt for their Long John blends. Despite this, its single malt has been bottled by all of its owners over the years, including as part of the short-lived Caledonian Malts range from Allied Distillers, alongside Laphroaig and Glendronach. Despite this, distillery bottlings are still something of a rarity.

This Tormore was distilled in January 2011 and matured for 10 years in refill barrel #80006. It was bottled by Hannah Whisky Merchants in September 2021 under their Lady of the Glen label.

One of only 258 bottles.

Teaninich 'Highland Star' 11 Year Old North Star 002

Teaninich was built in the early 19th century and was eventually bought by blenders, Munro & Cameron, in 1895. Their trustees later sold the distillery to DCL in 1933, and it remains part of the Diageo operation to this day. The distillery's primary focus is on provision for the firms many blends, and the 10 year old Flora & Fauna has been the only permanent distillery bottling, with just a handful of rare official releases appearing alongside it over the years. As such, the majority of Teaninich single malt has appeared under independent labels such as this.

This was matured in a refill sherry butt and bottled by North Star Spirits as part of their Millennial Range. One of 600 bottles.

North Star Spirits was founder in Glasgow in 2016 by Iain Croucher. They have since developed a strong reputation for bottling fantastic single cask and small batch whiskies, as well as the much-lauded Vega and Spica blends.

An old 1980s bottling of Tormore, bottled while the distillery was owned by Whitbread and still bearing the coat of arms of the Long John blend to which provision of malt was still its primary focus.

This is a bottling for the Italian market, in the form of a youthful 5 year old age-statement that was the market preference. The Italian love of younger single malt was the discovery of Armando Giovinetti, the agent for Glen Grant in the 1960s. He, correctly, hypothesised that the lighter flavours of a 5 year old malt would be better suited to the grappa-loving palate of his countrymen, and the contined success of the Glen Grant 5 year old there today is testament to his foresight.

Tamnavulin 12 Year Old

Tamnavulin distillery was opened in 1966 by Invergordon Distillers as a response to the increasing demands for their blends, and such provision has always been the distillery's focus. Despite this, Invergordon Distillers were always interested in bottling their single malts, and Tamnavulin was no different. They even boasted the legendary Moon Import are their Italian agents in the later 1980s. When Invergordon were bought over by Whyte & Mackay in 1995, the distillery was mothballed, but eventually re-opened in 2007. It now has a more prominent range for its single malt brand, and earlier distillery bottlings like this are becoming something of a rarity.

Introduced around the mid-1990s, this 12 year old was the only distillery bottling of Tamnavulin available for a long time, mostly owing to its almost exactly 12 year production hiatus. This was discontinued in 2014, with a new single malt brand and core range expression launched in 2016.

Tullibardine 10 Year Old 1990s

Tullibardine distillery in Perthshire was built in 1949 and was quickly acquired by blending firm, Brodie Hepburn. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the distillery came under ownership of Whyte & Mackay in 1993, who shut it down following year. In the preceding decades, its large production capacity had filled its even larger warehouses. In addition to selling the stock to third-party blenders, Whyte & Mackay used it for their own products, including some well-regarded official single malt releases. Among these are some exceptional single casks, and several additions to the sought after Stillman's Dram series.

This is a 1990s bottling of the official 10 year old, discontinued after the distillery was sold in 2003.

Tomatin 1989 Gordon and MacPhail 32 Year Old Batch #22/025

Tomatin was once the largest distillery in Scotland, with an expansion in 1976 bringing its still count to a whopping 23 (with a capacity for 10 million litres). An over-stretch at the time, it was forced into liquidation in 1985, never having run at full capacity. The following year it became Scotland's first ever Japanese-owned distillery after it was saved by a consortium of long-term customers. Nowadays it provides the heart to the popular Antiquary blend in addition to continuing to produce a highly regarded single malt.

This whisky was distilled in 1989 and aged in a single refill American oak cask before being bottled in 2021.

Gordon & MacPhail are one of the largest and most recognisable whisky companies in the world. Although they began distilling at the newly refurbished Benromach distillery in 1998, for most of their history they were an independent bottler. Their labels are recognised by whisky lovers the world over, and their licensed bottlings from distillery's like Macallan and Talisker in the 1970s and 1980s, when the companies were not bottling themselves, are a huge part of the success of those distillers today.

The Connoisseurs Choice label is one of the most recognisable independent bottlings on the market, and this release follows the 2018 rejuvenation of the brand, which saw it reimagined as a premium single casks range.

Talisker 10 Year Old

For a long time, Talisker was the sole distillery on Scotland’s iconic Isle of Skye. Renowned for the quality of its output, the distillery has rarely changed hands, joining DCL (now Diageo) back in 1916. Despite this, releases were not the most common. An 8 year old was bottled officially and Gordon & MacPhail produced what are now classic and sought after vintage bottlings under official license from the distillery. When a 10 year old expression became a founding pillar of United Distillers’ Classic Malts range in 1988, the popularity of the distillery exploded, and it is now one of the most revered and exported in Scotland.

This is the ever-popular 10 year old, introduced in 1988 and still a staple of the core-range in spite of the increasing non-age statement output from the distillery.

This label was designed after 2021 when the first single malt release from Torabhaig distillery necessitated a label change to update \"only distillery\" on Skye, to \"oldest distillery.\"

Teeling Whiskey 28 Year Old Single Rum Cask #10704 / Seek the Ultimate Rudder Ltd

The Teeling Whiskey company was established in 2012 by Jack Teeling, the former proprietor of Cooley distillery in Co. Louth in the north east of Ireland. When Cooley was sold to Beam Suntory in 2011, part of the deal saw Jack acquire 16,000 casks of its aged stock, which he and his brother Stephen (who joined later, began to bottle under the Teeling brand name. Cooley distillery was opened in 1987 after it was converted from a potato alcohol plant, and now operates two pot and three column stills, generally double distilling as opposed the more familiar triple distillation that most Irish producers favour. Teeling opened their own distillery in 2015, bottling its first single pot still output in 2018, launched exclusively here through Whisky Auctioneer. These releases bottled using whiskey produced by the family at their former Cooley distillery built a solid reputation for the brand in its intervening years, and those produced since are no less praised.

This single malt was matured in single rum cask #10704 for 28 years. It was bottled in July 2020 exclusively for Seek the Ultimate Rudder Ltd.

Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye 2013 Release

Thomas H. Handy is a rye whiskey named after the bartender and former owner of the Sazerac Coffee House. He acquired it in 1869, having previously run Taylor Sewell’s importing business, which had exclusive distribution of Sazerac-de-Forge et Fils brandy in the US. When the Phylloxera epidemic gripped mainland Europe in 1870, the brandy supplies in France dried up and Handy turned to rye whiskey as the alternative base for the classic Sazerac cocktail. He died in 1893, leaving the company in the hand of C.J. O’Reilly who promptly marketed the first Sazerac branded rye.

When the Sazerac Company acquired what is now called Buafflo Trace distillery in 1992, one of their long-term intentions was to see the eponymous rye brand return. They began distilling it for the first time in 1998, and the modern version of the Sazerac Rye was introduced in 2006.

The first Thomas H. Handy rye was bottled in 2006 as part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, a selection of whiskies collated and in some cases created to pay homage to the history of the company and its brands.

A historic distillery, Buffalo Trace was built in 1812 Harrison Blanton. It was then purchased by the legendary Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr in 1870, who named it OFC (Old Fashioned Copper) and invested heavily in its modernisation. So much so in fact that he declared himself bankrupt after just seven years, and George T. Stagg stepped in to rescue it, becoming its owner in 1878. He ran the distillery until his retirement in the 1890s, and it was renamed in his honour in 1904. Having survived Prohibition, it was bought up by the Schenley company in 1933, who ran it as part of their extensive portfolio for the next fifty years, eventually selling it to Age International. The latter's new Japanese ownership in 1992 had no interest in it (only in its brands), and immediately sold it to the Sazerac company, who renamed it Buffalo Trace in 1999.

Torabhaig Allt Gleann / The Legacy Series

The idea for Torabhaig, a Gaelic-speaking distillery on the Isle of Skye was conceived by Sir Iain Noble. A fierce proponent of the Gaelic language, he was the co-founder of the Edinburgh merchant bank, and believed Gaelic was the key to unlock economic regeneration in the Highlands and Islands. He founded Praban na Linne (Gaelic Whisky Co) in 1976 and obtained planning permission to convert the 19th century farm steading at Torabhaig into a distillery around 2002. Sadly, he did not live to see the idea realised. However, around the time of his death, Mossburn Distillers were looking for a site on Skye to build their own distillery, which ended up with them picking up the Torabhaig torch in 2010. Works began on the conversion of the steading in 2013 and the first spirit flowed from its stills at the Isle of Skye's second distillery four years later. Its spirit is peated to 50ppm and 100% of its production is reserved for single malt.

The second release in the legacy series, Allt Gleann is made up of 30 barrels that were distilled in 2017 and 2018. It went on sale in August 2021 and sold-out immediately.

Despite this, Invergordon Distillers were always interested in bottling their single malts, and Tamnavulin was no different. It now has a more prominent range for its single malt brand but earlier bottlings, even from independents are becoming something of a rarity.

This whisky was distilled in April 2016 at the Tamnavulin distillery and aged for 6 years in a Ruby port hogshead. It was bottled in March 2023 by Claxton's as part of the Exploration series.

Based in Yorkshire, England, Claxton’s Spirits have been bottling independent single malt whiskies since 2015. A truly family run company, the casks to be bottled are debated and decided upon by the family members themselves.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot.
