New Riff 2016 Kentucky Straight Bourbon 6 Year Old

New Riff distillery was established in Kentucky in 2014 by Ken Lewis, recognising thr trend in the bourbon community for greater transparency about the products being produced. The distillery sticks resolutely to the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, ageing their casks for a minimum of four years, and bottling at 100 proof only from a single distilling season. The operation distils using both rye and bourbon mashbills, and has developed a strong following for its high quality and straight-forward output.

This was distilled in Spring 2016 and bottled six years later.

The idea for Nc'nean distillery was conceived in 2012 by Annabel Thomas and her family, who had acquired the Drimnin Estate on the Morvern Peninsula of Scotland's west coast just 10 years prior. The following year, Annabel Thomas left her job in London to build the distillery from the ground up. As manger and CEO she secured nearly £7.5m throughout two rounds of fundraising, and work began on building the distillery from scratch in 2014. It was designed by the legendary late Dr. Jim Swan, and the first spirit ran from its stills in March 2017. The name, pronounced [nc-nee-an] is an abbreviation of Neachneohain, a figure from Gaelic folk legend known as the Queen of the Spirits.

This is the second release in a series of bottlings from Nc'nean called Quiet Rebels. Each edition of the series will be personally curated and chosen by individuals from the team at the distillery. The second was selected by Lorna Davidson, who was the first person to be employed at the distillery by our founder Annabel.

The whisky has been matured in a combination of bourbon casks and Pineau des Charantes (French aperitif wine) casks.

North British 2000 Berry Brothers and Rudd 13 Year Old

Prior to 1885, Scottish blenders were only able to acquire grain whisky from DCL. This changed when the firms of John Crabbie, Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John Watson collaborated to open the North British distillery in Edinburgh. Production began two years later on a single coffey still, and the distillery continued to grow, flourishing in the post-war period. In 1993 it was taken over by Lothian Distillers, a partnership between IDV and Robertson & Baxter, the modern iterations of which, Diageo and Edrington, retain a controlling stake in today. Occasional distillery bottlings have appeared over the years, but the majority of examples of its single grain come from independent labels like this.

This was ditilled in 2000 and matured in single cask #4313 before being bottled by Berry Brothers and Rudd in 2009.

Berry Brothers & Rudd is a firm steeped in history. They were established in the late 17th century, and received a Royal Warrant from King Edward VII in 1903. The company has been bottling single malt whisky from almost as early as that, and produced their first ever blend, Cutty Sark, in 1923.

Nucano Espadín Añejo Mezcal

Nucano Mezcal is based in the Oaxaca region of Mexico, with the brand's founders aiming to bring greater recognition to not only the spirit, but to the region itself. Inspired by the work of the state's many master \"mezcaleros\", Nucano boasts a fully Oaxacan chain of operation. Determined to create a truly artisanal and authentic spirit, they employ traditional production methods such as cooking their agave in a conical stone oven, and using a horse or mule drawn stone mill to crush the cooked agave in to mosto (agave syrup) from which the spirit is distilled.

This Nucano mezcal is made from 100% Espadín agave which is matured for 8 years. It is twice distilled in a wood-fired copper still, and aged for 3 to 5 years in white oak barrels, giving it its status as an añejo (aged) mezcal.

Naked Grouse Blended Malt

Originally launched alongside The Grouse Brand in 1896, The Famous Grouse was the third blend registered by Matthew Gloag & Sons, following on from the Brig o' Perth the year earlier. Priced lowest, The Famous Grouse proved to be the most popular of the three, and was officially trademarked by the company in 1905. Today is has become one of the most recognisable brands in the whole Scotch whisky world, and under the ownership of Highland Distillers became the first blend to have its own visitor centre, formerly located at the Glenturret distillery. The brand passed from the Gloag family to Highland Distillers in 1970, and is now owned by Edrington. Despite having lost its spiritual home with the sale of Glenturret in 2019, The Famous Grouse remains as popular as ever.

An old blended malt version of Naked Grouse aged in first-fill sherry casks. The primary malt content came from Highland Park and Macallan.
