Dupeyron Hors d'Age Napoleon Armagnac 1 Litre

Armagnac is a style of brandy produced in the southwest of France, using the short alambic-armagnacais still which tends to produce richer spirits than that of Cognac. The impurities found in the spirit owing to these short stills require a long ageing period in order to reveal their silky richnesses within - thus well-aged Armagnacs can be a thing of utter beauty.

Dalmore 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Select

Dalmore is undoubtedly the prize single malt in the Whyte & Mackay portfolio. This was not always the case though. The blenders purchased it from the Mackenzie family in 1960, having been long-standing customers. Due to the long-running importance of it to their blends, their distillery bottlings of its single malt were limited to a 12 year old expression. Nowadays however, it is positioned as a luxury brand, rubbing shoulder with the likes of Macallan, and is globally recognised.

The long-serving Dalmore 12 year old was the sole constituent of the distillery's core range until 2002 when when the Cigar Malt and 21 year old were added.

The Sherry Cask Select was launched in late 2020 and features three different styles of Oloroso casks in the maturation, alongside spirit matured in Pedro Ximenezx casks.

Kanosuke Limited Edition 2023

Located alongside Fukiagehama Beach (the longest sand beach in Japan), Kanosuke distillery was founded in 2017 and began production in the capable hands of president and master distiller, Yoshitsugu Komasa. The area is becoming known for its whisky production as Mars’ Tsunuki distillery is also located on the same street. Part of the historic Komasa Jyozo company, Kanosuke is equipped with three pot stills, each with different neck shapes and lyne arm angles. This allows the distillery to experiment and create different styles of spirit for single malt and blending. In September 2021 it was announced that Distill Ventures, part of the drinks giant, Diageo, had joined the fledgling project as a 50:50 minority investor. This move saw Kanosuke distillery join the likes of Denmark’s Stauning and Australia’s Starward distillery in the Distill Ventures portfolio of whisky brands. The first single malt release from the Kanosuke distillery debuted in June 2021.

This peated Kanosuke was distilled across 2018 and 2019, and matured in a combination of sherry casks and re-charred American oak casks that peviously held 'Mellowed Kozuru' aged shochu. It was bottled at cask strength in 2023.

As always the bottle shape is based on the motif of a pot still used at the distillery.

Kilkerran 12 Year Old

Glengyle is J&A Mitchell’s resurrected Campbeltown distillery, originally opened by William Mitchell in 1872. As with most of those in the region, it did not however survive the 1920s, and closed midway through the decade. In 2000 the site was reacquired by the family company though, and the new distillery was designed by former Springbank manager, Frank McHardy, who incorporated the two spirit stills from the long-defunct Ben Wyvis, where he began his career. Distilling began in 2004, and the first release was bottled in 2007. Interestingly, J&A Mitchell were did not acquire the Glengyle trademark along with the site (it belongs to Glen Scotia), so its single malt is bottled under the Kilkerran brand.

The first core range product from Glengyle distillery, the Kilkerran 12 year old was launched on 12th August 2016.

Kilchoman 2012 Unpeated Single Sherry Cask #560

Opened in 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay for 124 years. Its proprietors are the Wills family, and the distillery saw a return of the practice of “farm distilling” to the island, with its own barely fields, malt floors and kilns. Today around 25% of its barley requirement is self-fulfilled, and in 2011 they bottled their first 100% Islay release of single farm, single malt. The distillery’s first release came in 2009, and it has cemented a fine reputation ever since.

Single sherry butt #560 was filled on 30th August 2012 and bottled in October 2024.

A rare release, this was distilled while the Kilchoman kiln was out of operation in 2012. Because the distillery malts its own barley on-site, this meant that they had to continue production without the influence of the iconic Islay smoke in their barley until it had been fixed.

Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old

Dalwhinnie was one of the six original Classic Malts when they were selected by United Distillers (now Diageo) back in 1988, and it was tipped to become the favourite among consumers on account of its flawless floral flavours and elegant character. Although eventually pipped at the post by the smoky dark horse that was the Lagavulin 16 year old, it remains a well-loved single malt. The distillery is both the highest and coldest in Scotland, contributing to its unique flavour through the rapid condensing that occurs in its worm tubs.

This is the modern iteration of the distillery's classic 15 year old.

Karuizawa 1981 Single Cask #152

Karuizawa distillery was established in 1955 in the town of Miyota on the southern slopes of Mount Asama. It began production the following year, producing single malt for the Ocean blends from Daikoku Budoshu. Initially it was difficult for the distillery to obtain malt, but a lift on import restrictions in 1958 meant the distillery was able to experiment with the production of a Speyside-esque product, importing the same golden promise barely used at Macallan, as well as sherry casks for maturation. The subsequent quality of output saw Karuizawa whisky appearing in Japan as a single malt for the first time in the 1980s. Unfortunatley, the Japanese whisky market was not strong at the time, with Karuizawa being mothballed in 2001 by owners, Mercian, and eventually closing for good in 2011. Despite this setback, the distillery's legacy lives on, partially through its stills that were purchased by other distilleries in Japan, but predominantly in the hugely sought-after single cask releases that began to appear in 2007 from independent bottler, Number One Drinks. Old Karuizawa releases are now among the most prestigious single malts on the planet, with reverence ever growing as the remaining stock continues to thin.

This Karuizawa was distilled in 1981 and aged in single ex-Sherry cask #152 before being bottled in April 2014.

Fred died in 1982, leaving the business to his two sons, Stewart and Fred Jr, who eventually carved it up in 2013, with Stewart leaving to establish Hunter Laing. Fred Jr and his daughter Cara now run Douglas Laing, which continues to bottle single malt and has also revived its blending business. Additionally, the company has recently moved into distilling as well, announcing plans to construct the new Clutha distillery in Glasgow, and taking over Strathearn in Perthshire in 2019.

John Dewar & Sons were granted their first Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria in 1893, and it has been renewed by every monarch since then. The company opened the Aberfeldy distillery in 1898, and it remains the core constituent of its blends. The famous white label Scotch was debuted the following year. The company merged with James Buchanan & Co to form Dewar-Buchanan in 1915, before becoming part of DCL ten years later. It remained part of that empire until the formation of its modern iteration, Diageo, in 1997. The merger of United Distillers and Grand Metropolitan had brought too much of the industry under a sole parent organisation, and to satisfy anti-monopoly rulings, the Dewar's brands and distilleries were sold to Bacardi in 1998, who have breathed a new lease of life into many of them since.

This is a very old bottle of Dewar's Victoria VAT dating from the 1940s, with a label stating 'by appointment to the late King George V'.

Imported by Schenley Import Corporation, New York.

Kilchoman 2006 Sherry Cask 12 Year Old / The Kilchoman Club

Opened in 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay for 124 years. Its proprietors are the Wills family, and the distillery saw a return of the practice of “farm distilling” to the island, with its own barely fields, malt floors and kilns. Today around 25% of its barley requirement is self-fulfilled, and in 2011 they bottled their first 100% Islay release of single farm, single malt. The distillery’s first release came in 2009, and it has cemented a fine reputation ever since.

This whisky was distilled on 1st November 2006 and laid to rest in sherry casks #309 and #310 before being bottled in November 2018 exclusively for the Kilchoman Club.

One of 1313 bottles.

Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara Oak 2024 Edition

Suntory’s flagship distillery, Yamazaki was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923. The town of Yamazaki was chosen to be the site of Japan’s first commercial distillery due to its very ‘Scottish’ climate, and with it being an area where three rivers converge. In its early days, Yamazaki produced both malt and grain for Suntory's blends, but the opening of the Chita distillery in 1972 allowed the company to focus on its single malt brand. It is now one of the world's most desirable. The first spirit ran from the stills in 1924, on 11th November at 11:11am.

This Yamazaki was matured entirely in Japanese Mizunara oak casks for 18 years, and bottled in 2024 as part of that year's Tsukuriwake Selection.

Dalmore 15 Year Old Luminary No.1 / Kengo Kuma

Dalmore is undoubtedly the prize single malt in the Whyte & Mackay portfolio. This was not always the case though. The blenders purchased it from the Mackenzie family in 1960, having been long-standing customers. Due to the long-running importance of it to their blends, their distillery bottlings of its single malt were limited to a 12 year old expression. Nowadays however, it is positioned as a luxury brand, rubbing shoulder with the likes of Macallan, and is globally recognised.

Released in 2024, this 2022 edition Luminary release celebrates the great Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who is responsible for the Dundee V&A museum. The whisky itself was matured in American white oak casks, and finished in Amarone wine casks and bespoke virgin 'kintsugi' casks, crafted from Scottish Tay, Japanese oak and American white oak.
