Delas Frères Côte-Rôtie La Landonne Magnum (1.5 Litre) 2009

From the northern end of the Rhône valley on the northern banks of the River Rhône, the Côte-Rôtie (roasted side or bank) is the traditional home of Syrah (or Shiraz as it's also known). The ample sunshine and often scorching temperatures of these south facing vineyards are ideally suited to producing bold Syrah based wines.  The wines of Côte-Rôtie most often tend to be blends of Syrah with very small volumes (2-5%) of Viognier.  Though the additional volume of white wine is small, the impact is immense in terms of accentuating the fruits character and cutting through the fierce tannins.  This Magnum (double bottle/1.5 liters) is made exclusively from grapes grown at the 'Landonne' vineyard - produced by Delas Freres.  By comparison to standard 75cl wine bottles, magnums tend to mature the wines slightly slower thus allowing the wine to age for longer and take on even greater mellowness.

Please note that there will be a charge for shipping two bottles.

Dimple 1960s

An old bottle of Dimple. Dimple was produced by Haig and interestingly in 1958 the Dimple bottle was the first container to be trademarked by the US Patent office, this was because of its unique design.

The Haig family had a long history of distilling going back as far as the 15th Century. Since 1824 when Cameronbridge distillery was opened by John Haig, Haig has been a big brand in the whisky world. As part of a distilling dynasty John Haig became important in the regulation of Whisky production and was a spokesman for the industry. Although the brand began to shrink in the 1970s, in the last year it has seen a healthy revival with the help of Mr Posh Spice David Beckham.

Bidding advice

You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.

Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.

Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £55.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
