Independent Bottler
The Syndicate is a small independent bottling operation founded on Islay in 1988. One of its founder, John McTaggart, was an Islay property investor who had been acquiring casks of Islay whisky for his estate as early as the 1970s. He later invited several friends to join him in purchasing a parcel of 1970s vintage casks, and the group became The Syndicate.
Their first release was a 10-year-old Ardbeg, however the group is probably best-known for its legendary parcel of 1979 vintage Lagavulin. Its casks are bonded at Bruichladdich and have historically been bottled there too.
