Mackinlays & Birnie
Mackinlays & Birnie Ltd was a Scottish distilling company based in Inverness, founded in 1892 and officially incorporated in 1906. It was established for the purpose of building the Glen Mhor distillery which it opened in 1894, and was a co-venture between John Birnie and James Mackinlay of the Leith-based blending company, Charles Mackinlay & Co. Birnie was a former Glen Albyn distillery manager and the company also went on to acquire it in 1920.
The company primarily produced bulk whisky to sell to blenders, however it did license single malt brands for its distilleries to Charles Mackinlay & Co companies in the 1970s. It was eventually acquired by the Distillers Company in 1972 and dissolved the following year.
