Durham, NC, USA
The Liggett Group is a subsidiary of the American holding company, Vector Group, and is the fourth-largest cigarette manufacturer in the US. Although its parent company most recently had whisky holdings through its stake in Castle Brands, the Liggett Group itself took an interest in the industry in the mid-20th century.
While in its previous form, Liggett & Myers, the company acquired Austin Nichols & Co in 1968 along with its Wild Turkey brand, and bought what is now the Wild Turkey distillery three years later. It marketed the popular bourbon label until 1980 when it sold it to Pernod Ricard.
