James Munro & Son
While the exact founding date of James Munro & Sons is not known, it had established itself as a prominent part of the Leith blending industry by the turn of the 20th century. As such, it was acquired by the American firm of Cook & Bernheimer in 1905, who made it the licensee of Dalwhinnie distillery. With Prohibition looming in the US, it was bought by the Macdonald Greenlees in 1919 and subsequently folded into the Distillers Company in 1926. Under their ownership it was given the license to Knockdhu distillery, however was later dissolved by United Distillers in the 1990s.
The company is perhaps best-known for producing the Munro's king of King's blends which it bottled in stoneware flagons.
