Alte Tabakstube
Alte Tabakstube am Schillerplatz is a German tobacco and spirits retailer located in Stuttgart. It was founded in 1972 by Peter and Marlene Knyrim, and as of 1997 has been run by their son, Ralph Knyrim. The shop names means "Old Tobacco Shop" and this was and remains its primary business. It began selling single malt Scotch in 1986 however, moving into independent bottlings by offering the first of its own in-house branded releases in 1989.
Today its own-branded portfolio also includes Cognac, Armagnac and Calvados, rum, and its own specially-distilled gin. Its own single malts were most common in the 1990s and early 2000s, with most of its whisky today being exclusive selections from other independently bottled brands.
