"21" Brands
21 Brands was a liquor import and distribution company set up at the end of Prohibition in 1933 by former Olympic tennis champion, Francis T. Hunter. It is perhaps best-known for establishing the Ezra Brooks bourbon label (and its subsequent legal battles with Jack Daniel's over a copycat dispute), however its portfolio was wide-ranging and boasted a number of notable wine and spirits. It also owned the "21" Club in New York City.
The company was acquired by Foremost-McKesson Inc in 1969. That organisation divested it in 1988, seeing it bought by Remy Cointreau the following year, who subsequently merged it into their existing US-based operation.
